Session 1: Financing Europe's and the World's energy needs
The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that between now and 2030 investment in cleaner and more secure energy infrastructures worldwide will amount to a breathtaking $20 trillion. What are the implications in terms of governments’ finances and international financial markets? How can we manage limited natural resources? What role could the asset management industry play? What roles are there for venture capital and innovative start ups? What role can and should the EU play through its budget, research programmes and regulatory framework? Are the CCS pilot projects a model for the future? What other innovative technologies are around the corner? What would be a realistic and appropriate policy mix (including nuclear policy)? Will the G20 lead to closer global coordination? How can Europe support the poorer regions of the World?
