BMW www.bmw.com
The BMW Group has recognised the challenges resulting from drastic changes in the requirements for individual mobility concepts and is developing solutions to meet the new mobility needs. In this connection, BMW Motorrad has expanded its business activities with the addition of the facet "Urban Mobility", presenting two serial production vehicles in 2011 - the maxi scooters C 600 Sport and C 650 GT.
BMW Motorrad’s accelerated development of single-track mobility stands for visionary vehicle concepts and mobility services - as well as inspiring design and a new premium philosophy, clearly defined by sustainability across the entire value creation chain.
With the "C evolution" BMW Motorrad presents the near-production prototype of an e-scooter as it might soon go on the market. Since it was conceived as a future-oriented vehicle for commuting between the urban periphery and the city centre, there were two particular requirements for its development: performance figures comparable to those of a maxi scooter with a combustion engine and a long range in realistic conditions of use.

WeatherVelo specialises in eco-vehicles for personal urban mobility, to bridge the gap between two-wheelers and cars. The WeatherVelo ‘Prime’ cabin-scooter is a pure-electric single-seat vehicle weighing under 150kg (including battery) for optimal energy efficiency: less than 8g/km CO2 well-to-wheel. This design stems from years of research by German and British SMEs, working together with suppliers across Europe, to overcome the unique challenges involved in developing ultra lightweight vehicles.
The vehicle concept was recently awarded a prize for Innovation in Low Carbon Urban Mobility by the UK’s Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, sponsored by the Transport Research Laboratory.
A working prototype is nearing completion and will be on display as part of the exhibition. Funding is now needed to take the project forward towards market-readiness.
Partner SMEs: Axon Automotive (UK), 4 Seasons Velos (Germany), Schoene-Linie (Germany).

The European PTW sector represents an added value for the European economy of more than 1.5 billion Euros per year. ACEM members are responsible for 90% of the European production which touched the 2.5 million units landmark at the end of 2007. The economic crisis beginning in 2008 deeply affected the European Motorcycle sector causing an unprecedented recession that accounted for a market contraction of 40% in 2011 compared to 2007.

The European CHAMP project brings together champion cities in the field of cycling. By looking at their counterparts in Europe, the CHAMP cities want to find ways to upgrade and optimise their cycle policy and collect new ideas for making cycling even safer and more attractive. CHAMP will develop and test a performance assessment tool which will allow cities to carry out a gap analysis and draw up a resulting action plan with clear and measurable targets, for further improving their cycling policy. In CHAMP, each city will also have an intensive capacity building opportunity in one of the other participating cities, focusing on the weaknesses that have been identified within its cycling policy. This training and exchange programme will also open up to a selected number of cities from outside the consortium. CHAMP will develop strategic conclusions about how cycling policy in cities develops over time and how impetus may be maintained.

The European Parliament is committed to applying the EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) standard, with the aim of continuously improving its environmental performance with regard to its activities, products and services.
One of the European Parliament's major objectives in this domain is to reduce its carbon footprint by 30% between 2006 and 2020.
In 2011, the transport of persons accounted for 47% of the Institution’s total carbon footprint and is thus the largest single component of that footprint. It is therefore of the utmost importance to raise awareness about the environmental impacts of the EP's transport activities and above all encourage the Parliament's staff to act more responsibly when travelling.
For that reason, the EP's EMAS coordination team organises annually (in the three places of work) an awareness raising event dedicated to mobility - "EP Mobility Week".

The Federation of European Motorcyclists’ Association (FEMA) is the voice of the motorcycle and scooter users throughout Europe. FEMA is a democratic association representing 22 national motorcyclists’ organisations from 16 countries at the European Union and agencies of the United Nations.
FEMA is a strong supporter of the role of motorcycles in sustainable transport. Powered two-wheelers, scooters and motorcycles offer a credible alternative to the personal car: they are smaller, lighter, cheaper, more fuel-efficient and flexible enough to match most personal transport needs. New materials and new power sources can help develop this potential.
FEMA is promoting motorcycling as an alternative to other forms of motorised transport, while at the same time encouraging governments and manufacturers to improve the environmental sustainability of their products, so that powered two-wheelers can contribute to greener, more efficient transport in the future.

EBSF is an initiative of the European Commission under the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development. Starting in September 2008; EBSF is a four-year project with an overall budget of 26 million Euros (16 million co-funded) and is coordinated by UITP, the International Association of Public Transport. For the first time, EBSF brings together the five leading European bus manufacturers and forty-two other partners in 11 EU countries.
EBSF aims at developing a new generation of urban bus system adapted to the specificities of the European cities. EBSF acts therefore as a driver to increase the attractiveness and raise the image of the bus systems in urban and suburban areas, by means of developing new technologies on vehicles and infrastructures in combination with operational best practices.
The results of the EBSF project will be presented during a unique conference day on 15th October in Brussels.
